G'day, Sean from down under (Australia) here. I’ve been working in the exciting world of eCommerce and Digital Marketing for over 10 years.
It’s not often you find an opportunity that blends 2 of your passions - ecommerce and crypto, so when I saw the Onchain Summer Buildathon on X, I just knew I had to lock in!
And with that introduction it is my pleasure to present Coingift!
Coingift is the outcome of my interpretation to the Onchain Summer Buildathon Overview FAQs + Commerce Track brief.
The simplest idea behind Coingift is to make it as easy as possible to gift crypto in a fun and familiar way.
The products on offer are eGift Cards for memecoins on Base.
Memecoins are exciting, fun and are the gateway to encourage new users to further explore crypto.
The ideal customer for Coingift is someone who is already a crypto enthusiast, who needs to gift something and who wants to onboard family, friends, co-workers and anyone else in a fun and familiar way to crypto.
The benefits of onboarding people via an existing crypto enthusiast is:
- the recipient of the gift is introduced to crypto through a trusted source (their friend, family member or co-worker etc)
- the gift value acts as a natural incentive mechanism for the recipient to download the Coinbase wallet, create a wallet address and participate in the redemption process
- onchain complexity is completely abstracted away as redemption is via a familiar ecommerce/online mechanism
- reduced risk to the recipient as no money is being exchanged (we forget how daunting crypto can be for newbies)
I believe Coingift aligns with the brief by:
1) making it very easy to get onchain, and abstracting much of the onchain complexity as possible
2) provides a compelling commerce experience with merchants (for this project I regard merchants as the memecoin projects/creators) by providing:
- A) a loyalty feature (reduced purchase fee on e-gift card if holding the memecoin in your wallet)
3) provides on chain context via
- A) tracking of purchasers wallets (provided at purchase)
- B) tracking of recipients wallets (provided at redemption)
But above all else, Coingift increases crypto adoption and introduces 'no-coiners' to the future of finance.
Coingift also drives business outcomes for the project sponsors, Shopify and Coinbase via:
- The solution demonstrates the power of Shopify by being entirely built via native and existing app-store solutions
- Leverages crypto payments via Coinbase Commerce
- Increases downloads of the Coinbase wallet
- Increases Coinbase customers
- Introduces and increases customers to the Base L2
